'Baptism Window'
Kirkheaton United Methodist Church, Huddersfield
2 @ 1.1m x 1.8m
One of a set of two windows above the altar, on the themes of 'Baptism' and 'Resurrection'. The church requested that the designs be bold and simple, so that they could be readily understood by the children in the congregation. In the panel seven baptismal drops of water representing the 'Seven gifts' fall from the dove of the 'Holy Spirit'. The fish symbolise Christians 'swimming in the waters of baptism'. Due to the close proximity of an adjacent building these north facing windows receive very poor light. To counteract this the windows were made entirely in textured glass which obscures the stonework outside and gives the panels additional sparkle and surface interest.
